- Hello. First of all, introduce yourselves and "Ranina" - when did you come up with the idea and who are the band members?

- Hello. We are the quartet "Rankina", formed in 2018 as a musical group. However, there was an idea to create a different type of quartet, which, in the footsteps of Georgian traditional music, would also create its own handwriting and musical compositions at various stages of development. One source of inspiration is the barbershop quartet style, which finds some analogues to Georgian urban songs, as one and the other are associated with European musical harmony. However, the specifics of the Georgian urban song also contain Asian, especially Persian musical harmony. The members of "Rakina" are: Tornike Kandelaki - first voice, Soso Kopaleishvili - second voice, Saba Peikrishvili - baritone and Beka Kemularia - bass.

- Who are you for each other and what did you do before “Ranina”?

- We are longtime friends. Each of us has been singing since childhood. We have been in touch with professional music for a long time and we are musicians by profession. We sang and also sing in such famous groups as Erisioni, Sakiaoba, Didgori, Lashkarela, Ertoba, Father David's choir, Aghsavali, N. Sulkhanishvili State Capela, etc.

- What are the urban songs in the American barbershop quartet style?

-  The "barbershop quartet" style is mostly associated with fun, rhythmic and humorous music. Similar style started in Georgia in the 60s with the example of “GTU Quartet”, "Orera", "Diello", "4 Gia". In the United States there is one of the most popular barbershop quartet festival called Barbershop Harmony Society, where quartets from all over the world take part and showcase their national-style compositions. We have the ambition and the desire to come to this competition and present our music.

- Who are Ranina's audience, and how do you think listeners love you already?

- As you know, we are only a group of a year old, so it is difficult to answer this question thoroughly, especially in the context of whether they love us. We think that our awareness is slowly increasing and we have both listeners and viewers, both locals and foreigners. It can be said that every time our listener gets excited, that probably means some love.

- What about your future plans?

- First of all, we are preparing for an important tour in Germany by September. In about 2 weeks we will hold about 10 concerts, meet and hold seminars on Georgian traditional music and most importantly participate in the Aachen Art Festival. We have several concerts planned in Georgia too, which we think will deepen our experience and raise awareness. We are also preparing a project for the fall, which includes a weekly concert for foreign visitors in Tbilisi. We are preparing for the release of the first album in the near future and producing an image video clip.

- What kind of weddings do modern couples have?

- Often, when we musically accompany couples at a wedding, we find each of them to be different and extraordinary. This to some extent implies a modern wedding combined with modern elements and artistic aesthetics, which we like very much.

- Have any of you had a wedding?

- Yes, I had a wedding in 2015 (Soso). One of my groomsmen was Beka and now he is godfather of my Elene.

 - Were you involved in the preparation and how routine was the preparation process?

- In fact, it was a tremendous amount of hard work and stress, but eventually, it all made my wife and I happier, and that made all the negatives go away. The preparation process took about 2-3 months. In almost every detail, Miranda (my wife) and I were involved. Unfortunately, we do not apply for the so-called wedding company, but after consulting with family members, lots of friends and various experienced people, I think everything went well.
